This year, the pest control side of Liverpool based Industrial Pesticides NW is having something of a celebration – 25 years of serving the UK and international pest control industry.
Industrial Pesticides is a wholly owned division of Industrial Cleaning Supplies (Liverpool Ltd), a company which itself began life in 1965. Founded by Stan Dodgson, the father of today’s chairman – Malcom Dodgson) who up to then had worked within the motor trade. Stan started by acting as a distributor of cleaning products for the likes of Lever Brothers, Kimberley Clark etc in the North West of England, but it was not until 1980 that the company became involved in pest control.

Up until this time, the Wellcome foundation (the forerunner for what was to be become, after several mergers and name changes, Roussel Uclaf, AgrEvo, Aventis, and Currently, Bayer) Had sold their public health products directly to end users, decided they were in future going down the distributor supply route. As a direct result of this, industrial cleaning supplies established a specialist pest control side, christened Industrial Pesticides (N/W) and Bruce Blything (then working for Wellcome) was charged with making it fly – and the rest as they say, is history.
The infant business thrived and in 1982 the sales team was strengthened with the addition of ex-Wellcome colleagues, Stan Kelsey, George Moran and Ted Sainty, allowing the business to offer national coverage. In 1990, Barry Lea joined the team. Throughout this period, the company built up its storage and warehousing facilities, upgraded their support services to include training seminars, expanded their sales team who they are pleased to record have always worked in close harmony and most recently began to introduce their own range of branded products, for example Rid-Eze D/F and Rid Eze-Broma.
All credit must go to Bruce Blything who has nursed this infant organisation through to its current stalwart position in the UK pest control market. For the future, Industrial Pesticides say they will remain comittet to listening to and serving their customers, whilst extending their services to match the ever changing requirement of the market. Summing up its success, in true Bruce style, he said: “As the business has been running successfully for 25 years, we must be doing something right!”
