Excellent Point Gamekeeper! For maximum Brain Damage, it 'Has To Be' Hollow Points! Couldn't agree more, mate! Kill 'em. Don't startle them!

Stalker; This entire subject is all So personal, mate. " It depends " doesn't even start to cover it.

Calibre? Both will do the job perfectly well, as long as you only ever go for head shots. Can't make that shot? Don't ever aim ye rifle at live quarry. Ye not up to the job.

.177 is said to have a flatter trajectory, maybe travel faster. .22 delivers more force to the target. But, when you have a brain the size of a rat or pigeon and something approaching the equivellant size of a cotton reel passes through that brain ..... All accademic, surely?

As for which rifle? At that money, my personal choice was the BSA Lightening XL. I shot hidiously well with it, right out of the box. But then, I'm a skinny guy so needed a lighter rifle. I have no wish to look like Mr S.A.S, so I never even looked at the now more favoured black, synthetic, military looking things. Most seem to prefer that image these days. Fine. Maybe you would?

Everyone's into compressed air these days. I wouldn't know. I've never used it. Break barrelled springer suited me. People talk of repeat shots? I just make the first one count ;) I'm looking at buying a centre fire rifle now. One shot. Personal, see? But I've always relied on that one shot. I've no arguement with those who like to bang away at their target. What's Your view?

See? There's so much that's down to personal tastes and styles. Only You can select the right gun for You. Not us. We'd just sit here and shout our favourite names all day.

Go to Google. Find Gun Dealers. Search on ye price range. Read peer reviews on what catches ye eye. Try to handle ye short list. Decide for yeself.

Because when it comes down to it; It'll be Your finger on the trigger. Your shot. Your responsability. No one elses.
