I have been and had a look at a problem today that a friend has been have a bit of bother with. Senario. 2500 tons of wheat and 500 tons of lupins in one shed, 3000 hay bales in the next, good supply of water available. Our friends rattus that are slightly scandinavian have found it and that this is as close to heaven as they are ever going to get with out dying.
No chance what so ever of getting the harbourage or food source shifted

Already tried.
1. Bromad Grain, Blocks, Liquids.
2. Difen Grain, and blocks,
3. Traps and glue boards.
4. Shooting.
5. Ferrets.
6. Chalciferol.
7. Even borrowed a flute of some chap from Hamlyn in Germany.

Every treatment gets a few juveniles and the odd old wise rattus but never the wholesome big stuff that he really want to get.

Survey shows a large population, no external burrows, infact nothing away from the buildings. Farmer says that he always has had rats but never this many. They are not interested in the baits much at all.

Before I get to involved or even end up three nights a week out with him with air rifles. Anybody got any ideas or secrets that may like to share?
(if they are secret email me direct [email protected])

As I say no chance what so ever of moving the bales or the grain until well after Christmas.

I can't even use the old two stroke method.
And before anyone asks the rats are not tollerant of 2nd Gen.

'Victory Roll' through their charred remains, mate? Or don't you do that sort of thing?

Visited today. All baits remain in place, HooBloodyray. Looking back through reports 67 bodies removed (these are what were found during the searches only, does not include what the farm staff have burnt) I've been paid today as well to top it all off. When I presented the bill I did sense a sharp intake of breath. We have agreed on a contract price. So well done all of you thanks for your help and support.

Been back again today to rebait. Uptake has reduced one hell of alot, there has been Kilo after Kilo of bait put in and enough blocks to rebuild the Great wall of China over the weeks. Smell of carcases is quite bad. The blocks on gas welding rods between the bales have done the trick. Tomatoes at the start worked well as knockdown but they got wary of them after a while. The bales are to be moved. I recon it's pretty close now a couple more visits then monthly routines. Thanks for the imput everyone You have all earned loads of Brownie points, but not as many as I have with the farmer. Next problem will be the job I am just looking with the massive infestation next door. I will keep you informed.

Andy of course the blocks are as good as the pellets and the grain!

All the bait blocks have gone again! Double up again. Helen any chance of some vermigon blocks as samples to see if the take is as good on your bait? If you don't ask you don't get!
On the way there today it was blue skies a lovely winterery picture, on the back foggy as hell visability down to 100 yards.

I put off going today. Its 30 miles of traveling and the fog here has been awful even my missus looked good in it. In fact we very nearly didn't go pheasant shooting yesterday. Shock horror not going shooting!! I am going up there tomorrow. We had a couple of hour this morning with the Kuwaity ferret and dispatched a dozen. Some photo's were taken I will post them during the week to show what a real mottley bunch of people I go ratting at the weekend with.

Nick, I think they may of been spoked already by having their home blasted with CO, dogs chasing them, ferrets attacking the missus, andy's terrrible flute playing, and a bullet up the ****.

Popped in again today to have a look at the difen blocks, all 20 gone. I have doubled them up, thank God I priced it high. I would have quoted no where near what I have if I hadn't known what my dear old mate had thrown at it. He's glad to have got out of the contract. I can't get back there until Sunday afternoon, Shooting tomorrow and the old two stroke Kuwaity ferret is getting another airing on Sunday morning.

Been to the site again today. I put some Romax difen blocks onto gas welding rods, bent over the ends to stop them coimg off and pushed them into the rat holes in the bales.
I took the farm manager to show him where they were and what I had done, I pulled out one of the rods to show him, the bottom block had gnawing on three sides within an hour. the bales are coming out this weekend. It will be interesting to see whats dead in the bottom.

Paragon do a similar product called 'Racan'. Grain quality is outstanding, and it smells just like dairy milk (active is difenecoum).
Try adding some drinking chocolate powder to the Toms.

Essex have been in contact, they have a grain bait called Roban ww, this has been laced with a vanilla attracter, I am informed that it smells just like chocolate and works really well in farm situations, it's a touch on the expensive side but I am going to send for 25kg to give it a go.
Follow up today has revealed a very strong smell of minging rat carcases in the bales. Tomatoes have gone again, no real activity on the contact dust. The staff at the farm say that they are seeing less rats now, but they are still seeing loads 1st thing in the morning. I will get there early later this week and have a look for myself, I had forgotten that there are two 5.00 o'clocks during the day.

No problem Bry I intend to get in contact with you for the next ratting expedition. The mark 2 rat master gasser came today, I am getting them made up at a garden machinery place called E Buckland and sons in Tibberton Glos.

Contact dust is in tubes that have had a baffle put in to prevent spillage. Tubes are in the gaps between the bales and the outer wall.
