I have a customer with voles in the lawn. Their dog is making things worse by digging up the burrows.

Are there any recognised or ingenious control or deterant methods that anyone knows about? I assume they are classed as small ground vermin, although not normally regarded as a pest, they produce a similar sort of damage to moles in lawns.

Predator control in the form of a kitten has been suggested. The local raptors are obviously not up to the job.

I can't see that they'd be doing much harm in the garden but i found this which may help.

Keep filling holes up with "Sharp sand".

Interesting site Paul, I would think live trapping and relocating may be a good option. Iim not quite sure what would be the best bait for these grazers?

Nick, does sharp sand actually work because if it does that would be the quickest and cheapest option although I'm not sure it would necssarily drive them too far.

Apparently, not tried it myself.
But I know a pest controller who used it on a National Trust property.
Wanted them off the lawn, elsewhere OK.
It worked and relatively quickly.
Try it and see.
