So many occasions have occured in my time as a pestie that I feel I need an air gun.... What's the most favoured air pistol/rifle used by PCO's?...and how much would I be looking at?

As you say, "the arguments will start"! as all gunners seem to have very strong opinions!
To answer your second question, "how much", again bearing in mind the numerous options avaiable, I suggest you budget for:
a CO2 powered air pistol, 100 - 120 a spring powered air rifle, 225 - 250 a pneumatic air rifle, with multi-shot magazine, 550 and up
Get the best telescopic sights you can for your rifle from 50 upwards.
You will always be able to spend more - and there will always be bargains to be had.
Now the 'Gun Boys' can wade in with their suggestions..... |

As regards rifles you cant beat the AIR ARMS 410 in 0.177.Its got a 10 shot magazine, light weight precharged pnuematic accurate to 0.5 inch upto 50yards if you know its trajectary and have a decent scope.prices start around 450 for just the rifle upto 550plus for a complete kit(rifle, scope, mounts, bag etc). As regards pistols i prefer the sheridan EB20 its not the best looking but its got the power(5ftlbs)to dispatch most small vermin including rabbitsand faily accurate upto 10 yards(about 1 inch). Hope this helps. Gavin |

I'm with Urban on this one. BSA Lightening. It'll do all ye need it to and it won't break the bank.
I could tell ye a couple of perfectly true storys about my one. But people would think I was bragging and then bigging my mate up. But the simple fact is that what we aimed it at, we hit. Niether of us would claim to be any kind of " Marksmen " either.
What I'm saying is; If ye can aim a rifle right? BSA Lightening won't let ye down. If you're a bit of a duffer? All the 'SAS, Black, Tactical' looking kit in the world won't make ye any better. No matter how much ye pay for it or how sexy and 'advanced' it's said to be.
For cage trapped rats? Bob just said it for me

I can sell you a BSA Supersport carbine, silencer, .22, beech wood stock, brand new with scopes for 200 if you are interested. Shop-soiled (slight scratch on scope housing 2mm long.) Retails for 270 normally. Only problem I'm far north Scotland, but let me know if you are interested. It would be great for your needs, |

Regarding being able to hit your target with a pistol that depends on the ability of the shooter,if you can only hit a caged squirrel then thats youer limit. Most quality pistols have the accuracy to shoot decent groups to 10 yards or more especially co2 or PCP types which have little recoil. So it all depends on practice and the ability of the user.
