Last night I attended the NPTA AGM and I have to say that the apathy within this industry is nothing more than shocking. The NPTA represents a large proportion of the industry and yet those members couldn't find the time to send in apologies for absence. There was less than 10 apologies for absence and the dozen usual faces.

There are so many of you asking what your association is doing for UK pest control and yet neither could you be bothered to attend or even send in topics for discussion. This year we will see changes to the industry which many of you are only beginning to learn about.

The meeting was followed by an open forum which covered hot issues and created some lively discussion.

The NPTA and the BPCA are the voices of the industry and without your support and input how can you criticise their activities.

If the NPTA is one of the 'voices' of the industry, why hasn't their website been updated? As has been pointed out elsewhere, they dont supply their magazine to non-members, and dont seem to communicate well which might increase membership and support. Its a fair point though: we all need to do more.

Helen quite simple, as a member of long standing 250. AGM Nottingham 7at night, great for those of you who live close, but for me of an evening.
Theres guys in Nottingham who wont travel down to PestEx because its too far.
Nobby is right about website, some may knock the joining standards then happily join BPCA and join new organisations to get more training the very thing that they knock NPTA for.
NPTA is too Midlands based, are the committee the right people with experience but perhaps we have what we deserve.
They are too many people who mock the standards and don't join or fragment the industry further by dividing it now into 4 Associations, some Unity.
But then maybe Suppliers and Distrubuters have other plans.

I will post here what was posted on the UKPCO.

Are we prepared to stand up and be counted?
Are we a break away group?
Or are we just disgruntled with the pest control industry leading body set at present?
We all know that 90% of the PLC's and the large companies have lost their way at the moment and that the share holders are shouting and balling. what would you do if you were a Tech working for them earning peanuts and being balled out for not doing your 1100 routine visits per day would you care about the customer?

Maybe the lead bodies should have a representative within this UKPCO organisation. We are active in and passionate about this industry. Easy to say that only the usual faces turn up. What about online line meetings? We have been going for less that 3 months we have online meetings! Agenda can be mailed in advance and every one gets their turn. Don't blame those that have to work day in day out in this industry to make a living for not turning up to meeting that offer nothing directly to the individual. Those that can make day time meeting will have others doing the work or no work to do, is this a true representation of the independent pest controllers in the UK?
We need to know and are very interested in what the future holds for pest control in the UK. But please don't think it is apathy that we don't go to AGM's.
I am not personally a member of any of the organizations that supposedly represent the "Pest Control Industry" as I can not see how my small contribution or vote could change anything or carry any clout when there are large companies donating tens of thousands of pound to the organization. Maybe if these bigger companies techs were capable of using Cymag, Strychnine and the others that have been taken from us we would have seen a fight to save them., but alas because the ex-fork lift driver who has had 5 Monday's in house training at the branch and is now a fully trained pest tech for a PLC company doesn't need the product then nor does the professional self employed pestie that cares about his customer and possibly loses sleep over an infestation they are having problems with. The UKPCO will be offering no-one pensions or company cars, paid for by the membership. Our insurances will be only endorsed by the UKPCO no commission will be charged. Maybe the " Associations should be talking to the pesties at the sharp end" that don't tow the line and wont sucker up to the big boy's every whims to save them pulling the plug on their donations. We at the UKPCO have never had our own ball so we can't ask for it back. Their you are the thought of the INDEPENDENT pest control organisations biggest gob!
