We have had mice for a few months now firstly we found droppings in the kitchen. So we cleaned more then usual and kept all food locked away. We put several traps down which never worked and changed bait and places but no luck. We didn't see anymore until last week when we heard them scratting early one morning whilst in bed they sounded as though they were in the floorboards so we have just bought Sorex Mouse Killer 11 with direnacoum.
We put this under our bedroom foorboards on Wednesday this week (were we have heard them) and this weekend we keep hearing them more then ever running across under the floorboards, scratting, squeaking and squealing more then ever. We are even both now sleeping downstairs now it's thats bad.
Why is this? They didn't make noises before when they heard us in bed. We hardly heard them maybe once at 5am that was all. Now it's loud and at anytime of the day. Do they make these noises as the poison is working? We have put 5 bait points under the floorboards and are going to top them up this week. Any advice please..
Bear in mind that an anti-coagulant like Difenacoum will take a week to ten days to kill the mice and if you have not put enough bait down to provide a lethal dose to all the mice you may even have to wait that long again after re-baiting. You may also need to check lofts, behind kitchen cupboards, cellars, airing cupboards etc which may also need baiting to control any residual mouse population you may have throughout the house. Another thing to consider if you are not detached is the strong possibility that you could be reinfested from mice in neighbouring properties. In this case a block treatment will be essential. After you have eradicated your mouse infestation you need to determine how they gained entrance to your property in the first place and seal all these entrance points or you will be back to square one very quickly. Your local pest controller will be experienced in all of these areas and should be able to clear the infestation quickly and be able to advise on proofing measures. He will also have access to stronger rodenticides which are restricted to professional use only.

Hi Jacqui - it's probably a good thing that you have been hearing more noises. You have put poison bait down under the floor and this is a food source, albeit a poisoned one. It is likely that you have created a bit of a free-for-all at that point to the mice in your property. This is good news. Wait a few days and top up the poison if the mice haven't all died yet. Otherwise call a pro. Good luck.
