Two new pest control qualifications have been launched by the British Pest Control Association which focus on providing a quality standard for the food industry. The Certificated Field Biologist and the Certificated Technical Inspector qualifications are designed to meet the needs of the food manufacturing industry that may need a more complex service than that provided under a normal servicing contract.
The Certificated Field Biologist qualification is aimed at senior technicians who provide a service to the food manufacturing industry and who may not hold a degree but have all the knowledge and experience required to carry out the required site inspections competently. To obtain the qualification candidates will:
hold the BPC Diploma Part II or NVQ in Pest Control (or equivalent qualification),
have two years practical experience in a wide and diverse range of food industry sites,
hold the Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate,
be registered on the PROMPT Continuous Professional Development scheme,
 hold the IOSH Safety Passport,
present a Logbook / portfolio demonstrating practical experience in relevant inspection work,
 Sit the Field Biologist examination
The Certificated Technical Inspector qualification is aimed at senior technicians who provide a service to clients in the food industry but not to the extent provided by a Field Biologist. To gain the qualification candidates will:
