For all those live squirrel catchers, Spencer Davis Group's Take this Hammer would seem appropriate. If you miss, Argents Hold your Head Up And, for thise that don't use a blunt instrument , it could be the Animals Boom Boom. If you miss you may hear "We Gotta get Out Of This Place", or the Beatles Help. A good hit would suggest Clarence Carter's Slippin Away would fit. Bob Marleys's I Shot The Squirrel. For those real oldies The Essex song Easier Said Than Done suits trying to set a trap finely. For those that have a heavy setting Geogie Fames Get Away Something the world over all pesties need is Aretha's Respect
Steve, would pay a pound to see you dressed in the Glam-Rock look with the spiked hair and the high heels.

A quite amazing album. "In every dream home a heartache" is still one of my all time faves. I only bought the first four on vinyl, was Stranded the fourth?
quote: So who the hell Did do a smoker? Most strange.
Do you mean Steve Marriott, Small Faces and Humble Pie? The Pie were one of my favourite bands in the 70s, Frampton played lead guitar on the first four albums, Clem clemson from Colesseum then took over to the end. |

Ah but boys the Roxy album covers (tarts in wet clothes with nay brazziers on!) - were pure porn to a teenager with too much lead in his pencil and so much cheaper than Fiesta and Escort! (why did they name dirty mags after Ford cars? - or is that one for another thread?)
Was the ziggy album cover the last time anyone was actually in a phone box and making a call?
Ahem back to pest control now. Sorry for going of on a tangent mods but hey it's nearly xmas. |

Never mind about 'Topic', Dave. You started all this and it's already looking like a Very popular and enjoyable thread. We deal with sh!t all day and it's nice to have a break and socialise
Dust; I'll admit to a pair of " Platform Boots ", mate. Royal blue they were. But, because I always walked with long strides (back in the day before my degenerative life style led to my present, degenerative heart disease!) I sounded like a bloody horse coming down the road in them! Gave that up. But I did have a cracking pair of Oxford Bags though. Perfectly Hunky Dory!
Spots; I'd be hard pressed to name a less than briliant track off FYP. Though, if pressed? I think my all time favourite was " If There Is Something ", from the album, 'Roxy Music'. Their first.
As for the charcoal chap? I'll go to my grave never understanding that one, mate. Maybe I was dreaming? Though I could swear to this day they were saying " Mick Ronson ". Never been able to work that one out.
Dave; Do ye not remember the legend of the time, mate? Word had it that the bird on the first album was a Tranny. The one on FYP was a bit dodgy too. Said to be why Ferry's laughing at 'Her'!
By the way; Is it just me, or is everyone elses maching giving them purest hell tonight? I can barely get a page open!

Spots, I loved the Small Faces. Saw them live couple of times in OZ. That was a disapointment as they were either drunk or indulging in not exactly prescription doses. Staggering and reeling all over the place, forgetting words and chords. Had all their records and played a lot of their songs. Tin Soldier still amongst my favourites. Still, the Who came on the same tour, before Keith Moon met his end, and that was well worth the ticket. I sacrificed the opportunity see them again next March, in lieu of an Eric Clapton concert. At $399 a ticket there just wasnt room to also justify the Who as well.

| Dusty, Marriott and co, whether in the Small Faces or the Pie, were always out of their heads. It probably didn't help their live performances but it didn't do their song writing any harm. I would still challenge anyone to name a better vocalist than Steve. |

Having said that, Humble Pie's 1971 live album "Performance Rockin' the Filmore" is probably the best live album you will ever hear. Marriott's voice and Frampton's guitar work have never been surpassed in my opinion. It features a twenty four minute version of Dr John's "I walk on guilded splinters". If the desert island ever beckoned this one would definetely be spliced to the main brace. Certainly one of my all time favourites.
Just checked on Amazon - A discontinued item but there is one second hand copy for sale.
I hope it's not too early in the day for all these superlatives is it? |

Cant disagree Spot.Wonderful song writers and Marriott certainly had a raw blues voice. Pity is that SF's were really good musicians. Still, you spend your money and take your chances. That's why I have no intentions of missing out on Clapton. Its been 20 years since his last visit, and at that rate we will both be very old men when he returns for a third tour lol. Too young to be allowed to see the Beatles, and Winwood never came here

Hate to say this, especially on a public forum .....
I have always been a fan of the Small Faces and.....I used to dress like them and have the same hairstyle ( I used to have a girlfriend who was a hairdresser! ). Of course this was a very long time ago........honest
I have the Small Faces CD box set, it is incredible how good their music was and still is, they were very good musicians. Remember how good Ogden's Flake was?
I also have most of Ronnie Lane's CDs - brilliant

Too young to have seen The Small Faces live (just) but did see Plonk Lane's Slim Chance play Malvern Winter Gardens. There again everyone played the Malvern Winter Gardens in those days.
I've got most of the SF stuff on vinyl and CD including Ogdens and everything Humble pie ever did plus Steve Marriott solo album.
Adrian I can see you with your mop top and paisley shirt on your vespa. I too went through the mod phase but survived. |

| I think Marriott and Arnold were good friends. I believe they played together on various occasions. |

I saw Motorhead and Alice Cooper this year both good value, Louise from Killgerm got me a pair of tickets to see the Police at Cardiff that was supprisingly good.
Anyway back to the thread. A festive cheer for the pest control industry. "Difenacoum all ye faithfull joyfull and triumphant"

Did you go to Itchycoo Park too, Adrian? What did you do there? What did you feel there? But why the tears there? Was it all so beautiful? Joking mate, I loved them too, and played in a band that covered many of their songs.

I remember I had a denim jacket embroidered with flowers, and a parka ( before they came into fashion ) with an elephants rear drawn on the back.
That was fine until someone drew a pile of elephant poo between it's legs, then my mum wouldn't let me wear it
