Control

Most crawling pests of stored commodities are of order Coleoptera.  Most are capable of laying several hundreds of eggs in their lifetime, and of living for over a year.  Under good conditions, and when inhabiting a stored food commodity, this group of pests is capable of multiplying rapidly, and causing severe financial loss through commodity spoilage.

The Control of Stored product insects must be directly related to their biology, behaviour and the particular environment in question.   Control of this significant group of pests will be dealt with on an individual species basis.  As a general rule however, good standards of hygiene, harbourage denial, and the quarantine of inbound food commodities are all applicable.
