Posted - 30 Nov 2005 : 23:56:41 Now then, here's one for you. Just shows how the times they are a changin' (get lost, Dylan, that's my line). Just flickin through some old literature, as you do, and came across this little gem. In July 1864, a prize of 50 quid was offered at an exhibition of vermin traps in South Kensington for the most humane trap; there were over 100 entries. This is the bit I like- the event was organised by the RSPCA. Let me visualise the likelihood of that happening today. Nah, just a black tunnel... Hey, is that light at the end, or just a wee red un lookin fer a home? I give up, odds are the same fer either....Bugger Maintain the balance.. |

Posted - 02 Dec 2005 : 01:14:52 Cheers, mate! Soon as I read that, I just reached for Trev's book. Got that and his Bird Traps one right here on the Work Station.
Must admit, I only tend to look at it now when someone says; " Like the one in TB's book. Page .... " I must have half the traps in there. Seeing the other half just makes me sick !

Posted - 01 Dec 2005 : 20:52:24 Following some further reading, I came across the reference again. You can find it in the introduction to T Bateman (son of the illustrious James) little softback book on rabbit traps, funnily enough called Rabbit Traps, A Collectors Guide, published in 2004. I suspect the likes of Ben Read will have some copies available. If ye can't get hold of a copy, let me know and I'll photocopy the relevant bits for ye |
