Anyone else seen this new stuff, think it is by Roban or such like, local agri trader was champing at the bit to see what i would make of it, was very dissapointed when i had a look at it and said i wouldnt use it. For anyone who has not come across it yet it comes in one and a half inch square blocks, light blue, with flecks of grain showing giving it a resemblance of nougart, smells gorgeous, just like milky bar. Contains benzonate but i dont think that is going to stop dogs tucking into it, a child with a penchant for chocolate is certainly going to try it. Very surprised anyone would produce something as dodgy as this.

Always a problem when a product is presented in an attractive way to kids. Young kids are certainly lured by chocolate and lollies. Just yesterday in OZ three 8/9 year old kids took ecstasy tablets at school, thinking they were lollies.

well, make sure they cant then!! whats this? we cant have anything too attractive to rats in case kids eat it? next youll be telling me that theyre reducing the speed limits in built up areas so that when the kids run/walk out into the road they have a better chance of survival........... ill tell you what, TEACH THE KIDS NOT TO RUN INTO ROAD.......and how about this for revolutionary.......KEEP POISONS AWAY FROM KIDS, i know i sound crrrraaazyyyy but it just might work. rant over.

Bob, not sure if your comments are "tongue in cheek" as I am not familiar with your road rules, and if serious, you are entitled to an opinion! In the state I live in, that is the exactly the case. 60 km limit in most areas, but during the hours of 8 am to 10 am and 2.30 pm to 4 pm on school days, the speed limit is 40 km around schools, pre schools and some other selected areas. Not all kindy kids (or older) understand road rules or can be trusted, just as the same kids may not be able to read sufficiently to comprehend that rodent bait should not be consumed. Why present something that is disguised as chocolate and take the risk? Rats wont really care if bait is brightly coloured or can be broken off into bite sized squares, and yes chocolate is attractive to rats, we all know that, but so is anything with a high fat content. Sorry does not really cut it if a child dies! Just my opinion!

Tell ye what. How's This for "Revolutionary"; How about we present ANY Baits in such a manner as to preclude the chances of kids, Dogs, badgers or foxes getting at it in the first place?
I mean, I Know this is probably pushing it and maybe a stupid idea ..... but how about if Someone, one day, came up with some sort of contraption where by we could take potentially lethal products, in what ever form, and then present them to rats on site ~ relatively safely?
Yeah, I know. Mind expansion material, eh? I guess, untill some genius comes up with a safe and secure manner of Bait presentation that rats seem to find acceptable, you guys'll just have to keep popping the stuff down by walls and on ledges. Like they used to do with Strychnine laced bread. Just plonked there, exposed to all and sundry.
Now come on lads, Pul Eeeease!
MT / Donks: Has this stuff got holes drilled through the segments, mates? And what's the AI? Difenacoum, I take it? Saying that; The chances of it being lisenced for use in Eire are probably on a par with a cellophane rat in hells! But .....

its half the lengh of a contrac block,(smaller doses i presume)
This is a brand new multi edge block manufactured by Pelgar, Ideal for all mouse and rat problems indoors and out exclusively available form Essex Environmental Supplies. This block has proven to be very palatable containing wheat grains and the active ingredient difenacoum (0.005%).
http://www.pestcontrolonline.com/rodenticides-block-bait.asp?oid=637
everyone will in turn knock something, just like the new nooski. ( i trialed that too, all i got was mass mouse takes, but thats another fish......) so i say, as long as the guidelines are followed, and q & b dont get hold of it...(as if) then its another tool for the box.
note pelgar has its name to it so............ |

No one is knocking it, when used in the correct manner I am sure it will prove a good addition to our armoury. But it can already be bought off a variety of websites by members of the public and you just know it will be used for hole baiting and lets face it, not many pesties use expensive steel boxes externally on farms. All perdictable, all avoidable and if it is made more attractive to target pests, it is bound to be attractive to non target animals. |
