| As I spent my 'formative years' on the Shotley peninsula, I have a reasonable idea where Suffolk is! ...and that's a long way from anywhere else! Point taken though, gents. |

Suffolk is the southern part of the big bulge north of (yeuch) London - it's where a good deal of your food comes from

According to my map, Shuttleworth College, near Biggleswade, Beds is not that far from you - depending which bit of the "southern part of the big bulge north of (yeuch) London" you come from....
Just the other side of the M11(ish). |

| No - the "poor man's Eton", Woolverstone Hall school for rough London boys. I think it is now part of Ipswich High Scool - for girls. Just 40 years too late! |

Shirls,
I'm afraid the brutal reality is cost! It costs a lot of money to run a training course, especially if you use 'big names' like we do. There are thair daily fees, plus all their travel and subsistence costs, plus the cost of the venue hire, refreshments and lunches for delegates, organising information packs to get people in, replying to enquiries etc etc. It would add up to a large sum of money and as you wouldn't want more than 20ish on the course to be handable, that would mean a large cost per person to run. Would you, or your bosses be prepared to pay the necessary costs to make a course self-financing - and guarantee enough people came to make it viable?
That doesn't mean that they don't happen. I remember 2 days in Stirling when I was at Network and we did training on bird control, organised locally by Brian Gilmour at Dundee, but involving technicians from a number of organisations. Network paid for their staff and Brian charged delegates for the room hire, lunches etc. More importantly, Brian took on the time-consuming task of getting 'bums on seats'. Without his contacts, it would never have happened.
Every year the NPTA organise a 'Scottish Training Day' which is normally sponsored by Killgerm. As they have the vast majority of the product supply business in Scotland, they clearly see this as supporting their customers.
And one final key point. What training topics would you want? There are many to choose from. If any were topics that I was competent to deal with, I would be delighted to come up and present them myself. If I had a local organiser on board to drum up the numbers and choose a suitable venue, we could keep the costs for everyone to a minimum. Any takers?

I was discussing locations with a fellow pestie the other day. He said "when you look at the huge amount of pesties in East Anglia there is no reason why there shouldn't be courses run over here". Suffolk would take in Norfolk and Essex and perhaps beyond. Surely worthwhile getting an idea of numbers ?

Gamekeeper,
Certainly worth looking at - but first we need to know what subjects you would want us to offer. Any suggestions? |

Yes, I would be up for the Phospide and Rodent Control courses (more so if Adrian was taking the one on rodents). I am basically up for anything, cost is not a problem because I'm not footing the bill. The only reason I am light on courses is because of location. I am not a traveller, I've done all that which is a big part of why I am working for a rural district I would also be up for the ants as I have done an awful lot of them this year and we are looking to push that further
