I have also had a 'conversation' with this joker and have told him that unless he can provide me with a proper Approval number, I will have to conclude that his product is illegal and I will bring it to the attention of the HSE.
I'll give him a couple of days to consider his position then will formally complain to Mike Potts at the Bootle office of HSE. He probably isn't the person who will deal with this, but should know who is.
We must stop just complaining when we see these sorts of things happening - we must actually take the proper action, whether it is a 'kitchen chemist' like this, or a farm shop selling aluminium phosphide to anyone.
Thanks to everyone else that has actually written to the guy or has raised it with e-bay. The more pressure the better.
Brian, please post the details of the 'e-bay community board' so I (and maybe a few others?) can get stuck in.
We have to protect our industry. |

Hi - Dusty. Thanks for the advice, but it was really meant as a joke.
Creosote has been an illegal 'Old Farmers' method of treating moles for years, and hence my 'humerous' response.
The smell simply drove the moles out of the existing runs and into fresh land. This must be how this works. Oh yes, and it totally polluted the land and water course, but what the hell - at least the moles were gone!!
Perhaps I should start selling strips of Dog Rose and Brambles, to shove down the holes as an 'Organic' and safe mole 'Exterminator.' (Another Joke!!) - Yet another 'Old Gardeners' mole trick.
Coming Soon to an eBay Store near you!
The seller responded to me also - as below:
'hello,my formular is part pesticide and part organic and it really works and is easy to use, thanks, mike'
God knows what it is, but it must contraviene a number of laws.
Iain sounds like he is on the ball with this one. Well done.
Still very tempted to waste a few pounds on buying some, simply to find out how it's package / labelled, etc. and what it states it contains.

Here is the second response from the "kitchen chemist" when I pointed out that what he was doing appeared to be illegal:
"hello again,if you feel you have to report me to whoever go ahead,my product is safe, and once established will be very popular as it works better than anything else, mike,so do not bother me again as if you go ahead and report the facts you will be waisting everones time".
I will proceed to report his activities to the HSE.
Even if you buy his product I doubt that his label will reveal much - that is if you can understand his 'quaint' use of the English 'langwidge' (joke!) |

| I have reported this to ebay also, see what they come back with.I recently sold a sparrowhawk taxidermy piece, listed legally with the appropriate A10 forms, but it was removed first time round and was threatened with legal action and lectured about the wildlife & countryside act 1981! I probably know more about the act than the muppet who sent the E-mail to me! seems they pick and choose who gets removed! |
