Upon emerging from the
pupa, adult female blowflies are capable of mating and laying eggs
in under 5 days in favourable conditions. Eggs generally
hatch in less than a day, producing the characteristic
"Maggot" larvae which pass through approx. 3 instars
before leaving the substrate in search of a suitable place for
pupation. Emergence is generally 2 weeks after pupation. |

Good hygiene and
proofing are important factors in controlling blow fly populations
and should not be ignored. Subject to local regulations,
residual insecticides on harbourage areas may be of benefit.
Space sprays with good knockdown
action are often used. |
