Control

The order Diptera is particularly diverse, containing parasites, pollen feeders and detritivores amongst others.  Many of the members of the order are highly specialised for their particular niche.  The order is characterised by a complete metamorphosis life-cycle, with distinct egg, larval, pupal and adult stages.

Dipteran pests are diverse in biology and behaviour.  Control should therefore be considered on a species by species basis.   In general however, many dipterans are ready fliers and highly mobile.  This, combined with the often high breeding potential of this group conveys their high pest status.
